Trans-Africa Railway (Eastern)

A standard-gauge railway connecting Mombasa, Kenya to Kampala, Uganda — approximately 1,200km — forming the backbone of East African regional integration. This project stands as a landmark achievement for Huasheng in the field of Railway, Africa Infrastructure. Our project team leveraged world-class engineering technologies and project management methods, applying scientific construction organization, rigorous quality and safety controls, and advanced digital management to achieve optimal performance across safety, quality, schedule, and cost.

Throughout implementation, Huasheng upheld our core value of Safety First and Quality Excellence. Through scientific planning, meticulous control, and team collaboration, we ensured efficient progress and successful delivery, creating significant economic and social value for our clients.

Built to Railway Class I standards, the line includes 98 bridges and 12 tunnels, with the Great Rift Valley bridge-tunnel cluster as the controlling works. Four freight marshalling yards connect seamlessly with the Port of Mombasa for sea-rail intermodal transport.

Through Tsavo National Park the alignment runs entirely on viaducts, incorporating 14 large wildlife crossings whose pier spacing and clearance were purpose-designed around elephant migration patterns.

On completion, Mombasa–Kampala freight time will drop from 7 days to 1.5 days and logistics costs by roughly 40%, projected to lift annual GDP growth along the corridor by 1.5 percentage points.
